It's a major investment for innovation and technology in Agriculture.

Federal Ag Minister Gerry Ritz announced details of a new two-year, $50 million Agricultural Innovation Program at the SARM Midterm Convention in Regina on Thursday.

Ritz says the program was announced in the spring budget, and will help commercialize the great ideas and innovations from prairie farmers, and help improve the economy as a whole, saying when you start to spend money like this to drive innovation, it creates jobs and product flow to help drive the economy.

He adds this will also help farmers become more competitive.

Ritz adds a number of producers have already applied for funding through the program, and farmers can get more information and apply by visiting the Agriculture Canada website
