SARM delegates gathered in Regina last week for their Annual Convention.

Premier Scott Moe and a number of his cabinet ministers met with delegates to discuss a variety of issues from the grain backlog to the carbon tax and Rural Crime.

President Ray Orb Says Justice Minister Don Morgan told the group more needs to be done, perhaps around enhancing the trespassing law.

"The way the law is now, people have to post their rural property as no trespassing," he said. "People are not happy about having to put signs up. They think that people shouldn't be coming onto their private property unless they do have permission. That was a bit of a surprise, but we're looking forward to meeting with Minister Morgan and discussing that further."

Orb says they also had a good presentation from Crime Stoppers and are urging RM’s to get involved.

He notes there were also some one on one sessions for RM’s with the Assistant Commissioner from the RCMP “F” Division.

Another key part of the convention is the Political Bearpit session with the Premier and his cabinet ministers.

SARM President Ray Orb says a key issue for the Province, farmers and RM’s is the ongoing concern around grain transportation and the grain backlog.

"We are pretty much in the eighth month of the current crop year, and this is an urgent situation, and Minister Stewart knows that and Minister Stewart is trying to do all he can," he said. "It's really frustrating to see the farmer's grain backup and farmers being under the kind of financial gun, and they've got bills to pay, and there's a lot of stress I think unessicarily being caused to farmers right now."

He notes Bill C49 is currently stalled in the Senate, and Orb says they’ve been urging the Senate to pass the BILL.
