After extending an open invitation to politicians to join her in the combine earlier this season, Megz Reynolds has had a great response.

Reynolds family farm is located near Kyle, SK. She sent out the invitation on social media ahead of the harvest season, on August 9th.

NDP Leader, Ryan Meili, joined Reynolds in her combine on Wednesday.

"I really appreciated her reaching out," said Meili. "It was a great chance to see what's on her mind, what she shares with the rest of the farm community."

The two discussed the challenges of the agricultural industry, including younger families trying to start their own farms, childcare and the concerns around mental health in the industry.

Meili grew up on a farm south-west of Moose Jaw and said the experience was more of 're-connection rather than an introduction but he still learned a lot, "Every farm is different and certainly things have changed technology wise and even the crops people are choosing to grow."

He recommended that anyone who has the opportunity to do the same should take it, "There's something kind of special climbing up into the cab, you get a different conversation and it opens up a different experience of what people deal with day to day."

Premier Scott Moe also took her up on the offer, joining Reynolds in the combine on August 17th. Federal Ag Minister, Mr. MacAulay, also showed interest, but couldn't find a time that worked for both himself and Reynolds.

Reynolds had said it's been a great experience so far and hopes others will do the same, "I think this is a great learning experience that could be expanded on, whether that's opening the door to your farm or cattle operation. It doesn't just have to be politicians, it could be anyone that has an interest to learn."

She explained that she was inspired to do this by farmers in the UK and France, who were also inviting politicians out to their farm.

"I know personally, not growing up on a farm, I didn't know anything about grain farming until I moved to a grain farm," Reynolds said everyone needs that first introduction into the agricultural industry, "Anyone who jumps in my cab, or anyone's cab, I'd love for them to take away something they didn't know before."
