he month of March is Rural Women’s Month in Saskatchewan.

Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart says Thousands of rural women choose to make agriculture their career and they make great contributions to their communities and to our province.

Naomi Paley is a Regional Livestock and Feed Specialist with the Ministry of Agriculture.

"Rural women make very important contributions to our ag industry and to our economy in general," she said. "Whether that's through farming or ranching, veterinary medicine, ag business, they contribute on the whole, very largely to our industry."

Paley says there are some interesting stats about women’s involvement in Agriculture.

"One in ten of the 11,000 female farm operators in Saskatchewan are full proprietors," she said. "Traditionally we're always thought of farm operators and producers as predominantly male or a husband and a wife, but the tide is really turning, and we're seeing a lot more women being involved with full proprietors ships of the farming business."

According to the 2016 Canadian Agriculture Census, one in four farm operators in Saskatchewan is a woman.
