The Saskatchewan Stock Growers are gathering at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw for their AGM and Convention.

The event started Sunday with a tour of the new JGL Assembly Yard while the group will hear a number of presentations today focusing on Labor, to disease issues, cattle marketing and consumer demand.

Chad MacPherson, the Stock Grower’s General Manager talks about this year’s theme Change, Challenge, Opportunity.

"The cattle production is an evolving and changing business," he said. "Things like climate change, antibiotic access and the markets, we can see these as challenges, but we are also trying to focus on the opportunities that these challenges and change present for livestock producers."

MacPherson also shared a short list of some of the presentations.

"We're going to have presentations ranging from succession planning, agriculture labour, Johne's Disease," MacPherson said. "We will also have presentations from the Canadian Cattlemen that will focus on different trade opportunities, we have a presentation on changing consumer prospectives on protein production and we will also have a presentation from VIDO on different vaccines and research projects they're working on."

One of the highlights for Tonight’s Banquet is the presentation of the Environmental Stewardship Award.

Last year’s winner was Miles & Sheri Anderson of Fir Mountain, the couple also went on to win the National Stewardship Award.
