The Ministry of Agriculture is once again sending two students and their teachers, all expenses paid, to represent Saskatchewan at the Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa from October 19 to 21

Provincial Agriculture Awareness Specialist Shayla Hertz says this event brings together students and agriculture experts from all over the world.

"They can tour cutting-edge industrial and research facilities, and they take part in a lot of discussions with global leaders in all sorts of areas like science and industry and policy," she said. "It is a great opportunity for networking and discussing pressing food security and agricultural issues."

She adds the deadline to apply is coming up on May 1.

"Students need to make sure that they have a genuine interest in global food security and interest in advocating for Saskatchewan agricultural and they need to be in Grade 8 or 11," she said. "It's a great opportunity; they get to write a research-based essay, and that's how we select the students that are able to attend because that really showcases their knowledge on food security issues and Saskatchewan agricultural."
