With the changes to the Canadian Wheat Board …Saskatchewan farm groups are looking at setting up a wheat commission.

Alberta already has one and similar discussions are underway in Manitoba.

The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan has already held some preliminary discussions with a number of farm groups on the idea:

President Norm Hall says it will take some time to set up: "The wheat commission will not be running before August 1rst. We're looking at probably close to two years to get this thing up and running. You want to make sure... everything is in place."

Hall says farmers are busy with spring seeding right now adding they plan to hold a meeting sometime in June to set up a steering committee.

One of the main roles for the new wheat commission will be to collect and distribute the levy .
