Seeding has started in some areas of the province, but it is expected to get underway in most areas next week.

According to the first crop report of the season from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, some work has been done in the Southwest, but the cooler weather has slowed things down. Rainfall and cool weather in the east-central and southeastern corner of the province has halted field work and pushed back the start of seeding, as producers are experiencing very wet field conditions.

We’re starting to hear some reports around the province of fertilizer shortages and increasing prices. In the west-central area, farmers are also reporting shortages of peas this spring.

Farmers are busy checking equipment, cleaning grain, picking rocks and starting some pre-seeding fieldwork.
