Agrisoma

Agrisoma and Paterson Grain have signed a partnership agreement for identity preserved production of Carinata. Carinata is a drought tolerant oilseed crop with potential in the bio-fuel and jet fuel industry.

Patrick Crampton with Agrisoma said Caranata is a larger seed sized crop that does a good job of covering the ground and out competing weeds, “Target seeding rate is six pounds per bushel which is similar to a lot of OP canolas out there and so from a seed bed preparation, seeding depth in that half inch to inch range much like you would for a canola crop.”

He adds that the crop holds a lot of potential, “It does produce a non-food oil that has some really interesting application in terms of speciality chemistry products as well as bio-diesel and a lot of bio-jet fuel today.”

Crampton said producers will be looking at seeding the crop anytime from mid-April to mid-May

IP Contracts are in place for 6000 acres of production in 2012.
