A US researcher from the University of Michigan-Dearborn is spending time in the Swift Current area this week.

Andrea Olive is talking with producers about Endangered Species Legislation and Conservation Practices, “People here generally have a pretty good sense of stewardship and really want to take care of the land but at the same time don't necessarily want the Provincial or Federal Government to regulate their land or tell them what to do with their land”

Olive adds that, “Over regulation is a concern and I think punishment maybe is a bit of a concern in the sense that if endangered species are still here and if land owners have them on their land they should be rewarded for that as opposed to being punished for that.”

Currently Saskatchewan operates under the 1998 Wildlife Act which is in place to protect species in threat of extinction.
