There was a good crowd on hand for the Canadian National Bison Sale yesterday (Tuesday) at Canadian Western Agribition.

Committee Show and Sale Chair Nolan Miller says they had 67 head of Bison on offer this year with a sale average totalling over $531 thousand dollars.

"Prices are pretty steady, the sale kind of reflected on that," Miller explained. "It stayed very consistent (the sale) especially the heifer prices and the bull prices were up and down a little bit but they usually are. Overall it went well."

The high selling animal was a 2-year-old Bull from XY Bison Ranch at Fort St John, BC that went for $25,000 to Brian and Eleanor Brown of High Plains Drifters at Hodgeville.

Brian says he liked what he saw and also ended up buying the Champion Male – a yearling bull also shown by XY Bison Ranch.

"I like the bulls with confirmation," Brian said. "I know the guy I bought it from and I bought both from him in the past and they have performed really well for me."

Silver Creek Bison at Binscarth won the Reserve Champion Male Banner, Bison Spirit Ranch at Oak Lake won the Champion Female and Premier Breeder title, while Prairieland Bison at Hodgeville won the Reserve Champion Female. The Rookie of the Year title went to Roaming K Bison at Foam Lake.
