The province's labour recruitment mission to Ireland seems to be a success. At least it was for Duane Smith from Jay Dee Ag Tech.

He took part in Saskatchewan’s Job Fair Expo in Dublin and Cork and hired 3 heavy duty mechanics.

Smith said they are still finalizing interviews with potential employees over Skype:

“Out of the three offers we made two are slated for North Battleford, one for Unity, some of the others we're looking at for Swift Current, Maple Creek, possibly Kyle as well.”

Smith was hoping to fill about 12 positions within their 9 stores across the province.

He said about 20 thousand people attended the shows hoping to find a job and he found it a humbling experience:

“It kinda of reminded me of pictures that my Dad or my Grandpa from the Dirty 30's with the number of people lined up. There's people lined up all the way around the building, down parking lots, out in the street, down the street all looking for work. Ireland is in very tough shape right now their economy is in a tough position, financially the country is struggling.”

The province was able to start working with the new employees on the immigration requirement which is expected to take anywhere from 4 to 6 months.
