The revamping of the Canadian Food Guide may have negative implications for producers.

The proposed changes to the Canadian Food Guide could mean fewer Canadians would be eating meat.

Tom Lynch-Staunton with the Canadian Cattlemen's Association

"It applies that plant based proteins are better for you over animal based proteins, which in many cases isn't true, it applies that plant based proteins and animal based proteins are equalling when we don't believe the nutritional evidence and the scientific evidence is there to support that plant based is better than animal based proteins."

Lynch-Staunton says the concern comes from the first guiding principle which strongly emphasizes plant based proteins and he feels that there is a clear biased towards the promotion of plant based proteins over animal based proteins.

Producers are concerned about the negative implication this would have on the agriculture industry.
