Farmers have the opportunity to take to Twitter today to talk with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada Scientists.

It’s World Soil Day and AAFC Scientists will be available from 1 pm till 2 pm today to chat about soil-related issues from nutrient management, to carbon capturing and conservation.

Barbara Cade-Menun a Research Scientist at AAFC’s Swift Current Research and Development Centre says it’s important that farmers take time to focus on soil health.

"Soil health is the ability of soil to function the way we want it to for what we want it to do. That means there's a good balance of biology, chemistry, and physics so there's good aeration, the nutrients are in balance, the soil microbes are happy.  If you do that you'll have healthy soil and that will grow healthy crops."
