At last week's City Council meeting council was presented with the 2019 year-end report for the Swift Current City RCMP.

It was a busy year in terms of events happening in the City, causing Swift Current to see more people than it's used.

Staff Sergent with the Swift Current City RCMP, Gary Hodges, said that despite the busy 2019, they didn't face any major problems.

"I think it's been a great year for our office and our detachment," he said. "There's been a number of major events taking place in the City, plus those that are annual. As I look back and think about all the events, those all went off without a hitch. From a policing perspective, there were no major events that we had to deal with as a result of those which is always a very positive thing because we like to see those things come into the community."

Hodges said in terms of staffing; it was also a positive year.

"If people have followed it over the last couple of years, we've had some challenges at different times due to members being injured and things like that," he said. "Right now, we are in a very positive position from a staffing perspective. We are just waiting to fill one more promotional position hear at the City."

He added that the less busy that the officers are, the better things are for the residents of Swift Current.

Compared to previous years, City RCMP saw a decrease in the number of offences reported and or committed in the community, minus criminal record checks.

A total of 2,159 offences were reported or committed in the City in 2019, as of October compared to 2,512 last year, and 2,539 in 2017.
