The Swift Current 57’s kept their winning ways going as they took three games against the Weyburn Beavers over the last couple of nights.

On Monday, the 57’s earned another come from behind win over the Beavers, bolstered by a wild four-run bottom of the 8th inning that started with a Logan Grant single, and then with first-baseman Hayden Cooper and coach Joey Jordan ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Grant later scored as Justin Barnes reached on a fielder’s choice. Mathew Ward got on base on an error and then Logan Stockton hit a double to right to clear the bases and tie the game. Dylan Coty then picked up his first hit and first RBI as he hit a fly ball to centre that got lost in the lights, cashing in Stockton for what would be the winning run. Tejean Smith moved from shortstop to the mound to pick up the final three outs in the ninth and his second save of the year in a 6-5 win.

Barnes and Stockton also drove in two runs of their own, starting pitcher Adam Golby allowed four earned runs and five hits over 7.2 innings, and Trent Greek picked up the win in relief.

The 57’s and Beavers then played a double-header in Weyburn on Tuesday night to make up for the season-opening game that was rained out. The first game was a scheduled seven-inning contest that went scoreless right through regulation, and the two teams traded runs in the 8th and 9th innings, but Swift Current broke out with five runs in the top of the 10th to take game one 8-3. Ward had a two-RBI night and Gregor Farquharson got the win on the mound.

Game two started fast for the 57’s with four runs in the first inning and they would hold on for a 6-4 win to sweep the three-game set. Logan Stockton and Cory Bonstrom drove in a run each, Alexander Fijal struck out three batters over three innings to pick up the win, and Patrick Tangen got the last three outs for the save.

The 57’s sit on top of the East Division at 10-5 and have a five-game winning streak as they host the expansion Sylvan Lake Gulls for the very first time tonight at 7:05pm from Mitchell Field.
