A southwest emergency services organization is celebrating 48 years of service and was recently handed an award for the achievement.

Gull Lake and District Ambulance Service has been operating in the town since 1976.

The non-profit's Chief, Dave Waiser, said the award comes from the Paramedic Services Chiefs of Saskatchewan, which they are a part of.

“It’s crazy to think that we actually have a 48-year service award—that's a long time,” he said.

Waiser has been with the organization since 2005 and said that almost every staff member has ten years under their belts and had been to Gull Lake for their positions.

“Pretty much anywhere we’re needed,” he said when asked what areas they cover. “Generally serving Shaunavon, Cabri, all around Gull Lake, towards Piapot and then the other side of Webb towards [Swift Current].”

They service approximately 3132 square kilometers and a population of about 2,200 residents in the Cypress Health Region.
