The restaurant scene in Swift Current is continuing to evolve with a burst of new options on the way.

A few of those choices were revealed at Swift Current city council last week and include; a Meltwich Food Co. and a Chester's Chicken near the iPlex.

"That tells me that there must be demand for that in and around Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan, which is great," Karla Wiens, CEO of Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce, said.

The two restaurants join a list of new eateries about to open up shop just in front of Walmart with construction well underway on a Ricky's, Fatburger, and Pizza Pizza.

"There are definite advantages to purchasing franchise model," she said. "You have a lot of marketing support and established business practices that are profitable. Franchises traditionally don't want to go where they aren't going to be successful."

That isn't all that being added to the menu in Swift Current, with a BarBurrito in the Wheatland Mall en route as well.

"The growth in Swift Current with the incoming of these restaurants will give people employment, provided different options, and I wish them much success," she said.

The six new restaurants could impact the local economy beyond just adding to the labour force.

"The other thing our local restaurants had done and these new folks coming on board, I hope they do too, is a lot of them source their product that they're cooking locally," she said. "We've had some new ventures that have enabled them to do that like regarding fresh produce and those kinds of things."

Currently, there are 55 eating establishments in Swift Current according to the City including recent additions such as; Bear's Den Pub & Grill, Swiftys Casual Dining, Riya's Family Dining, Curry Town Fine Authentic Indian Cuisine, and Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.
