The Swift Current Broncos announced today that they have acquired 2004-born defenceman Zach Turner from the Brandon Wheat Kings, in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Turner (6’3”/192lbs), out of Boissevain, Man., has played two games with the Wheat Kings this season, being held scoreless with four penalty minutes, and a minus-one rating. During the 2023/2024 pre-season, Turner notched three assists in two games for the Wheat Kings.

“We’re excited to add Zach to our team. He’s a big mobile defender that denies zone entries at a high rate, protects the slot and has a great stick,” said Adam Filmon, Senior Manager of Business Operations and Hockey Analytics. “He’s going to make our defense group tougher to play against.”

Turner has played his entire WHL career to this point with the Wheat Kings. He’s played 65 games over parts of three seasons, being held without a point. The big blueliner has gathered 16 penalty minutes, and a minus-13 rating.

Prior to making the jump to the WHL, Turner played two years with the Southwest Cougars U18 AAA club. He scored 38 points in 56 games, leading the team’s defencemen in scoring in 2020/2021 with nine points in eight games.
