The Swift Current Broncos team that left the ice last night after a 6-5 overtime loss against the Prince Albert Raiders was a vastly different team than the one which began the shortened season with a five-game losing streak.

Despite the final score, the game was hard-fought to the end, something that Assistant Coach Brandin Cote says wasn't a guarantee even just a few short weeks ago.

"Probably two weeks ago or three weeks ago in this situation, we might not have been able to come back. But we stayed with it. We got the tying goal. We got a couple of power-play goals when we needed them, which is great. We got a lot of good penalty kills tonight. So overall we've seen a lot of growth and a lot of really positive things. So it's too bad we couldn't finish it off with the final goal in overtime, but overall really proud of our group."

Some of that pushback came from the last-minute heroics of Cole Nagy, who leaped onto a waiting rebound to tie the game with just over a minute left on the clock, sending the game to OT. Nagy, still riding high off his first career hat-trick against the Warriors on Sunday, ends his season with 7 goals, good enough for second for the Broncos behind Michael Farren.

The Broncos would take an early lead in the first before running into penalty trouble, giving the Raiders the opening they needed to first tie the game, and later to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.

Bode Hagan would eventually tie the game in the second but would be spoiled late in the second by another power-play goal by the Raiders giving them the 3-2 edge going into the second intermission.

Just 16 seconds into the third frame, the Raiders would up their lead to 4-2 on a Bronco turnover, but Carter Stebbings would immediately answer back with a power-play goal of his own to keep the Broncos within one.

The game would see a dramatic shift after Raiders goalie Max Paddock found himself ejected from the game. Reacting to a snow shower from Josh Davies, Paddock began punching Davies and was ejected for an intent to injure game misconduct.

Matthew Ward would score on the ensuing power play, taking advantage of the last-minute insertion of backup goalie Carter Serhyenko. The game would remain 5-4 until Nagy found the back of the net to send it to overtime.

Overtime only lasted 54 seconds, however, as Ozzy Wiesblatt would find himself alone on a breakaway and make no mistakes.

Some changes will be coming now to the Swift Current Broncos, as Assistant Coach Brandin Cote has announced that he'll be pursuing an opportunity to coach under Mike Babcock at the University of Saskatchewan. While Michael Fareen, Kaleb Bulych, and Owen Williams all graduate out of the WHL.
