The Swift Current Broncos doubled down on southwestern Saskatchewan products during the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft today.

Gull Lake's Berney Weston was chosen by the Broncos with the 74th overall pick near the start of the fourth round.

The 5-foot-7 netminder appeared in 17 regular-season contests for the Swift Current Pure Chem U15 AA Broncos compiling a 12-4 record with a 2.66 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage.

Weston started all 10 playoff games for the Pure Chem Broncos helping guide the team to the provincial finals berth.

He's the second player selected by Swift Current from the U15 AA Broncos squad - joining teammate Parker Rondeau.

"Berney was probably one of my best friends on the team," Rondeau said Thursday afternoon. "He's a really good goalie, he works so hard for how small he is. He tries to improve his game a lot."

The 15-year-old also appeared in one game for the Swift Current Home Hardware U18 AAA Legionnaires this past season and is signed with the team for the 2022-23 season.
