The executive vice president of business operations for the Swift Current Broncos is climbing the ranks to the American Hockey League.

The WHL team announced early this afternoon Nathan MacDonald has accepted a role with the Calgary Wranglers and will be leaving the Broncos organization in late July.

"I will remember the people the most," he said reflecting on his time in Swift Current. "From the day I got here, it was so welcoming, the fanbase is so supportive and involved in the team and it makes it a really cool opportunity to be in the role I've been in."

MacDonald started with the Broncos on August 15, 2018, taking over the reins from Diane Sletten. Over the last five years, MacDonald said a key part of his growth can be credited to the board of directors.

"They've all taught me a lot, I've been able to leverage their experience and learn on the job under their guidance," he said. "The one thing I've been really lucky with is, that they're really supportive, they're excited by this opportunity for me as a person and that's a unique position to be in."

Returning home to Calgary for MacDonald was just one of the things that enticed him to take on the manager of business operations for one of the AHL's newest locations.

"The opportunity to put my fingerprint on an organization that's getting their feet in the market is also really exciting," he said.

The Athabasca University graduate noted his work is not done in Swift Current as he'll aid the board in finding his replacement.

"My focus is on making sure the team is ready to go for next year," he said.
