While the cold and snow seem to have settled in this week, we could see a return to above average temperatures by this weekend.

That means melting is likely to occur as well, possibly creating slippery roads and sidewalks.

Nelson Pompu with Swift Current EMS says while they haven't seen much of an increase in ice related injuries this year, the potential of hurting yourself by slipping on an icy patch is always there.

"People get overconfident when they see that it's melting outside," Pompu said. "You can still have ice patches under water and even ice patches in shaded areas... it's important to take precautions when you are outside at any time."

Residents are encouraged to help ensure safety for others by keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice to prevent any incidents.
