A man who admitted to border security officials that he had ties to organized crime was denied entry into Canada at the Port of Monchy last month.

The Canada Border Services Agency says the incident occurred at the Highway 4 border crossing south of Val Marie on September 17th, and the man returned to the United States.

Also in September, CBSA officials at North Portal denied entry to a Texas man headed to Estevan because of his criminal past, which included cocaine trafficking charges, and three men travelling to Alberta for work were also denied entry at North Portal because neither had permission to work in Canada, nor did the employer made any application to hire foreign workers. CBSA officials also discovered that two of the men were convicted for robbery, assault and arson. In total, 75 foreign nationals were denied entry at North Portal alone, including 39 for criminality.

The CBSA noted that close to 49,500 travellers and 32,728 cars were cleared at border crossings in Saskatchewan last month, including 24,247 travellers at the province's busiest border crossing at North Portal.
