Local literary enthusiasts, avid readers, and anyone else will have the chance to celebrate Independent Small Bookstore Day coming up on Saturday, April 27.

Yellow Canary Books & Stationary in Gull Lake will host their very first Independent Bookstore Day event, welcoming people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Cole Girodat, co-owner of Yellow Canary Books & Stationary, is excited to gather community members and showcase local writing while having fun.

"We're really excited for our first Independent Bookstore Day," said Girodat. "We've had really good support from the area, people love to support local and we love to see that."

Something that sets this Independent Bookstore Day event apart from others is the live readings from Southwest authors including Tekeyla Friday and C. J. Buehler who will be in attendance.

The event will also include a Sip & Shop, raffle baskets, children's activities, snacks, drinks, and a contest from the Independent Bookstore Association.

"We definitely recommend checking out our local author's section, we really want to highlight this for the day," Girodat noted. "We have authors from Swift Current, Shaunavon, Herbert, Tompkins, Maple Creek, Webb, we have authors from all around the area."

Southwest authors who are interested in appearing at Yellow Canary's Independent Bookstore Day event can email yellowcanarybookstore@gmail.com or call (306)671-9993.
