The first annual Ribfest finished its final day yesterday, serving award-winning barbecue and live music for charity.

Two nationally recognized BBQ cookers, Silver Bullet Bar-B-Q from Guelph, Ont., and Prarie Smoke & Spice from Regina participated in the festival, which took place in the parking lot of the Living Sky Casino.

Matrica Ashcroft, co-owner and operations manager with Prairie Smoke And Spice said that the casino was an enjoyable place to serve their ribs.

"The casino has been really great to us, I think they reached out to us and said that they were interested in doing this event and you know they've made it hard to say no, like they've done everything so well, and we're happy to be here."

The three-day event featured five different musical talents, ranging from League of Wolves, to the Oral Fuentes, a reggae/latin/afro-fusion band.

A portion of the proceeds from the event is being donated to the Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation medical charity, with all of the profits made from sponsors of the event going to the foundation.

Jacqueline Hudec, marketing coordinator with the Living Sky Casino, said that the two ribbers were in competition for three awards handed out at the event.

"Our main focus was the ribs, the ribbers, we have two championship ribbers from across, and they are competing against each other for best sauce, best ribs, and peoples choice ribs, and I think the music was a real add-on to the event as well."

Robertson Familly Group donated bouncy castles for use at the event, and the Abilities Council brought out some midway-style games as well.
