A Florida man that allegedly raced across the Canadian border illegally late last week by Val Marie and was arrested in Strathmore, Alta. has officially been charged.

Selasie Onegus Turner is facing five criminal code charges after leading the RCMP on a multi-province police chase that ended on June 1.

The charges include flight from the police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, robbery with an offensive weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The chase began after the Canadian Border Services Agency reported a two-door Infiniti sports car damaging barriers and travelling through the ditch to avoid stopping at the crossing.

Two attempts were made by the Shaunavon RCMP to stop the car, but both were unsuccessful as the vehicle continued westbound at extremely high speeds and no pursuit was initiated.

Redcliff RCMP say the vehicle travelled through Medicine Hat around 1 a.m.

Turner was arrested by the Alberta RCMP without incident in Strathmore around 10 a.m.

The Casselberry, Fla. resident is scheduled to appear in Strathmore court sometime today.

The investigation is still ongoing according to the RCMP with assistance from Canada Border Services Agency, the Integrated Border Enforcement Team, and U.S. law enforcement agencies.
