Earlier this week, Manager of Information Services for the Chinook School board Rob Geiger presented the Technology Status Report at their board meeting.

In his report, Geiger reported on some recent expenditures as he explains.

"We purchased new printers for all of our schools and as part of the deal, we were able to reduce the printing costs significantly including our colour prints by more than 50%."

Geiger also discussed the current state of hardware in his presentation where he focused mainly on Chromebooks and the fact that there are 8 Chromebooks for every 10 students and as they age out they will probably not be increasing the number available but they will need to be replaced.

In the report, Geiger also addressed the fact that all of the school servers were updated this year and in regards to security he confirmed that phishing remains the greatest threat from an IT point of view. He also shared the fact that 95% of enterprise attacks are done through phishing.

Geiger also addressed the delay in upgrading the access points.

"I talked about the access points. They were delayed due to manufacturing limitations and supply chain issues. So we were not able to finish upgrading as we planned over the summer but were over 50% there now that we have them all as they just came in December."
