A Swift Current resident has been approved to build a single-family home on two lots in the northwest part of the city.

The property on the 400 block of 5th Avenue Northwest was discussed at city council this week, when the consolidation was approved.

Planning Development Officer Kathy Dand explained that while technically two lots, together they make up the same size as a typical parcel in the area.

“It's a normal 50-foot lot,” she said. “That line sort of continues through a couple of blocks, so it may have been that it was an entire street right of way or parcel...and then when ISC converted to their non metes and bounds titles, those two would have would have been described as the south-half and the north-half and instead became two parcels. That's why we now have to do an actual legal consolidation.”

The applicant demolished the previous three-unit dwelling that had also been built on the two lots and will build a single-family home in place.
