It's not a real elegant upgrade, but a necessary one for the Chinook Golf Course in Swift Current.

Council approved a plan to work on the men's and women's washrooms by adding new plumbing fixtures, lighting and flooring, and updating the facilities to current accessibility standards.

"The existing washrooms are over 23 years old, it's a public facility, and needs some work done to not only meet some standards, but to cater to our clientele," said Dean Robson, General Manager of Community Services for the City of Swift Current, who adds the upgrades to the washrooms will not only benefit those who use the golf course, but also the general public.

"We have lots of people at the Chinook Golf Course that are using the pathways, trails and green spaces around the areas come in," he added. "They may or may not always stop for a coffee or drink in the restaurant, but certainly lots of them use the washrooms."

The city is budgeting $70,000 for the work, and are looking to have the renovations completed by the start of the golfing season.
