The City of Swift Current is in the process of budget deliberations and deciding what to spend, and where, this year.

 

City Council and Administration are hoping to have the 2011 budget finalized in the next few weeks.

 

Mayor Jerrod Schafer says while Swift Current has the lowest municipal property taxes among Saskatchewan cities, holding the line on taxes this year will be a challenge:

 

 

Schafer says one of the important issues in any budget deliberation process is looking at the impact long-term, as well as the immediate future.

 

He adds with city tax levies bringing in under $7 million and escalating costs, the dollars get spent quick, and City Council wants to make sure they are being spent wisely.
