Swift Current City Council

The City of Swift Current is getting closer to releasing their 2013 budget.

They met again last week and nearly finished it off.

"We've probably gotten to a point where we're comfortable," said Mayor Jerrod Schafer. "So I think just a few more rounds of discussion, administration will put some final touches on it and get ready for a presentation to the public. One of the things that we worked very hard at the last number of years is communication the results of the budget, why we're there and things that we're looking at."

Schafer couldn't say how much of a tax increase we will face as of yet.

Interview with Swift Current Mayor Jerrod Schafer"I think unfortunately when you're dealing with a tax increase any amount is significant," Schafer said. "Successive budgets with zero percent tax increases, those days are gone. We're a growing community we have to invest. If we don't' and focus solely on zero percent tax increases we're not going to grow with the rest of the province."

There's no timetable for exactly when they will release details of the budget.
