Captain Rod Smith with the Swift Current City Fire Department has received the Fire Service Exemplary Service Medal for his 20 years of service to the community.
Lieutenant Governor Gordon Barnhart presented him with the medal at a ceremony in the City Fire Hall Friday afternoon.
Captain Smith says the last 20 years with the fire department has been a humbling experience, and one he doesn't take lightly.
He adds the biggest changes at the Fire Department over the last two decades include the general role of a fire fighter, saying that it has expanded to fire prevention and education.
