One of the few drive-ins left in the province has gotten some major upgrades.

Ken and Denise Kelk have owned the Clearwater Drive-in near Kyle since 1988.

Denise Kelk says there have been lots of changes at the drive-In and they are looking forward to a great new season.

"This year we converted to the new digital projection system.  We were able to do that in May before opening and that is the way we started the season with great picture quality and the sound has improved.  We also redid our screen last year, so everything is going great now," said Kelk.

Kelk adds there were some challenges that came along with the new equipment.  They had to do some renovations to their projection room to keep it heated throughout the winter as well as making sure the room was sealed to protect the new equipment from dust.

Overall the upgrades and renovations added up to about $100,000 with a digital projection system.
Kelk says for the drive-in, "It was either convert or go out of business and it was a big undertaking."

Kelk says the community has really supported the drive-in which was a deciding factor in going ahead with the upgrade system.
