Kids, candy, and play were all the rage at the 2022 Kiwanis Coin Carnival.

The event offers kids ages 6-11 to come down to Riverside Park and play some games for free, and enjoy one last event before summer comes to a close and school starts again.

Krista Caswell, the community recreation coordinator for the City of Swift Current, and she was out and about last Friday helping put on the event which included prizes.

"We don't use this event for fundraising," clarrified Caswell. "It's actually kind of like a break even, and sometimes not even a break even."

The event is sponsored by and large by the Kiwanis Club of Swift Current, which has been helping to put on the Carnival ever since its inception.

"They provide us with an opportunity to put on many different games activities," said Caswell.

The great thing about the Coin Carnival is that all the games are free. This enables a greater range of access for kids of all backgrounds and encourages participation without a price barrier for entry.

"We try to do barrier-free programs for the kiddos in the city," commented Caswell. "We just try to provide as much fun as possible"

The one booth that does require some cash is the concession, which has some steep prices if you're six. Mackenzie Acton, the summer programs coordinator for the City of Swift Current, had the inside scoop.

"Some of the concession items start at $0.25 and go all the way up to $1," said Acton.

The prizes were toys that got a few wandering passerby's eyes, provoking questions on how they could enter to win.

"We have the ultimate game coin," explained Acton. "Which is $2 and they can go play all the carnival games and collect tickets to get prizes."

Between the games, prizes, bouncy castle, snacks, and the spray park, it was a fun day out in the sun for dozens of children who came to play.
