Swift Current could look like a winter wonderland by the end of the weekend.

The city is expected to be hit with a pair of snowstorms by Monday and at the same time pummeled with cold arctic air.

The first storm scheduled to pass through the region today and tomorrow is an Alberta clipper which is expected to barely glance the southwest.

"And then there is another system moving through it looks like on Sunday, that's a Montana low," Lang said. "That will probably bring more snow I would think, just because these systems tend to have more moisture with them so you could get more snow."

Lang thinks Swift Current will accumulate about 5-10 centimetres of snow by the end of the weekend.

"Higher amounts north and higher amounts east," she said. "There will, of course, be some wind with this, so lots of blowing and drifting snow out on the highways. Temperatures also really starting to slide... It is certainly winter."

According to Environment Canada, Saturday's daytime high of -9 C could be the warmest it gets until next weekend.

"It's been a pretty mild winter so far, so I don't think we're accustomed to it (the cold) as much as we should be by this time of year because it has been so mild," she said. "As we can see this isn't record-breaking cold, this is regular Saskatchewan cold, I just think we're a little bit soft this year because of the mild winter."

Sunday through to Thursday daytime highs range from -20 C to -24 C.
