Last week the City, Provincial and Federal budgets were all released to varying reviews.

Many people held a close eye to what the budgets said including Great Plains College, and President and CEO David Keast gave some of his initial reaction to the Provincial budget.

"I was pleasantly surprised at the way the Ministry of Advanced Education and the Economy stepped up with 2.1% for the regional colleges. Frankly I was expecting the news to be worse but it was not," added Keast. "A lot of provinces are cutting in post secondary education, including Alberta and B.C, and Saskatchewan is not one of them and that is noteworthy."

Keast added that the college got a little bit of a bump in their operating grant and also in a couple of places in the programming. Keast also noted that this budget shows the provinces focus on their strategic planning on addressing labour market demands.
