A local student was recently awarded a $30,000 entrance scholarship from the University of Saskatchewan to help fuel his future and post-secondary education.
The Swift Current Comprehensive High School announced last Thursday that Hudson Coates had received the U of S Best and Brightest - Chancellor's Scholarship.
A welcome surprise
The grade twelve student said that he was surprised by a U of S recruitment officer during History 30 last week, where he was presented with the award.
"It feels really great," said Coates. "It's kind of freeing to not have to worry as much about finances as I go through school.
"I'm going into engineering, probably mechanical."

Exhibiting excellence
The prestigious Chancellor's Scholarship is awarded to top high school graduates recognized for their exceptional grades and future ambitions.
"I think it's really cool to be acknowledged as someone from a smaller town, compared to somewhere like Saskatoon that has so many people and so many schools," he added.
The scholarship will be provided in quarters, with $7,500 going towards tuition each year.
