A major bridge on a busy Swift Current street will be undergoing some brief construction beginning tomorrow.

The Chaplin Street East bridge will be closed to traffic from September 6 until September 9 to allow for warranty repairs.

Craig Knudsen, a municipal engineering technologist for the City of Swift Current, said the structure had its expansion joints replaced in 2020 for around $250,000.

"During the warranty inspections in 2021 we noticed the rubber seals, which provide a waterproof connection at the joints, had become detached and leaking," he explained.

Because the City found the issue on the bridge located between 10th Avenue Northeast and 11th Avenue Northeast, PCL Construction will be on the hook for the financial cost.

"The contractors that initially got the contract in 2020, they have to return to make that repair," he said.

The City has set up detours around the bridge, that was built in 1954, for motorists.
