The equipment has arrived, and work has begun, on the new vertical platform lift at the Grand Coteau Heritage and Cultural Center in Shaunavon.

Made available by the Government of Saskatchewan Municipal Economic Enhancement Program, the Town of Shaunavon, and those who have generously donated money and those who have supported recent fundraising efforts, the lift will cost around $65,000.

Joanne Gregoire, Director of Culture for the Town of Shaunavon, said, "The lift that was in the building was an incline plain lift, so basically it followed the stairway up. And it worked, but it wasn't the greatest solution and it had become obsolete. So, we felt it was time that we just take that leap and get a proper lift."

The new lift should take several weeks to complete, with a target date set for the end of March.

While work continues, residents are asked to follow the signage for entrance to the facility. To enter the Museum and Galley enter through the south door of the building, and to enter the Library use the door on the north side of the building.
