Effective yesterday, February 28,  family presence in long-term care homes has begun to move to open family presence, with the exception of a small number of homes where enhanced precautions are thought necessary by the local medical health officer.

The return to open family presence provides residents of the chance to see more family and visitors.

There are now no  limits to the number of family or support or visitors that can be present at  any one time, and visits can be daily.

Masks are still required in common areas in long-term care facilities, but are not necessary in the residents room.

Residents are also able to resume visits in their communities, outside of the care home.

The SHA says that family members and support persons are essential to the well being and care of all residents.
