A resident at The Meadows has taken it upon herself to raise funds for a much-needed van for the residents.

Inspired by her passion for crafting, Anita Penner has been selling diamond paintings, key chains, and plants to generate money for the cause.

Penner explained that having a van would provide residents of The Meadows with more freedom and a better quality of life.

“We have 220 people, and we have no van, no way of transporting any of the Broda,” she stated. “The city bus is too small to transport a Broda, so, this one is wider, the Broda’s are able to get on there. And sometimes you can't rely on the city bus, they have a lot of clients that they take care of, so it’s not very often that you can get one and you have to wait quite a while.”

Broda chairs are specialized wheelchairs that provide greater comfort and support for individuals. However, they pose transportation challenges due to their size and specific requirements.

Having a dedicated van would significantly improve the residents' ability to access various activities and appointments, such as doctor visits and social outings.

Penner is offering a wide variety of options for interested buyers. Personalized key chains, adorned with an array of colourful beads and customizable designs, are available for purchase in addition to completed diamond paintings and a variety of plants.

Spider plants, aloe vera plants, and mother-of-thousand plants can be purchased for five dollars each. Keychains can be purchased for ten dollars each, and personalized keychains can be purchased for 15 dollars.

The diamond paintings can be purchased in Herbert at both New Beginnings locations for 50 dollars each.

“I just want to make as much as I can,” she added. “The sooner we get the van, the sooner we can use it and people can go to picnic. In the evening, they can go to a hockey game or they can go bowling in the evening. Families are able to take the bus and take their families out for a picnic or take the family member out for supper, we just don't have that.”

To date, Anita has raised approximately 750 dollars through the sale of her crafts.

Those interested in purchasing key chains or supporting the cause can reach out to Penner by calling 741-484-7 or leaving a message on her Facebook.

Customized keychains are made to order, with Penner contacting buyers once the items are ready for pickup at The Meadows.
