Culturedays 2012

Culture Days comes to various Canadian communities this weekend, including Swift Current.

Free events and activities through the weekend include building a sod house at the Swift Current Museum, playing with clay at the Art Gallery of Swift Current, flag design at the Newcomer Welcome Centre, and Pioneer Games at the Lt. Colonel Clifton Centre.

"The most important part would be to promote culture to everyone," said Barb Parchamn, Swift Current's Culture Days Co-ordinator. "By offering free events at all of these venues, people have the opportunity to get exposed to some cultural experience that they might not have participated in before."

Parchman adds that in addition to the weekend activities, students from grades 3 and 4 will be able to take part in a cultural tour.

"They're going to be doing a cultural tour of seven different venues, and at each venue they get to do an activity," she said. "They'll go to the Art Gallery, and they'll play with clay and get to see a potter at work, as well as see the clay pottery that's displayed in the gallery."

Culture Days events will also be held in Shaunavon, which include a performance and songwriting workshop with Megan Nash on Friday, and one of the songs from the workshop will be performed on Saturday during a community lunch.

Other events include the Taste of Eastend Multicultural Dinner on Saturday and Sunday, and the Highway 1 Studio Tour.
