As the school year comes to a close, so too does Swift Current City RCMP's Constable Tony Curti's tenure with the local classes.

Curti over the course of the last year, has been going to the Swift Current Comprehensive High School to deliver his Tip of the Week, as well as offering his insights into a variety of topics, from traffic and crime prevention to criminal code offences.

Curti came with Swift Current City RCMP's Staff Sergeant Evan Gordon to deliver a message to Swift Current city council on how the year went during the last Governance and Priorities Committee meeting.

"I've created a lot of opportunities to educate our youth in regards to crime prevention files," said Curti. "A total of 29 actually in the whole school system. I've touched all the schools in the city so far."

Curti has worked with his co-presenter, Lanna Koethler, to deliver messages about substance abuse and other important matters.

His role as a crime prevention educator plays into a lot of the other hats he wears in and around the community. Working together with others as a board member for Southwest Crisis Services, the Chair for the Drug Strategy Action Committee, an instructor for Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Core, a volunteer at the Blenders concerts, a volunteer for the Swift Current 57's, participates in a cooking program at the Center, and more to come.

"I'm currently working with the Ministry of Education to develop a policing/emergency services curriculum for grade elevens and twelves in the province," revealed Curti.

Pretty much everyone on Swift Current city council was impressed with just how much of an impact Curti has made in the community. The students have seemingly all come under the umbrella of Curti, looking to him as a role model, and as an inspiration to further their knowledge on certain subject matter.

Swift Current Mayor Al Bridal was among those to continue the singing of praises.

"I want to say how proud I am that we have a member of the RCMP like yourself that dedicates so much time, not just in your job, but with lots of other volunteer things," said Bridal. "You're a community member like many of us and it's just so good to see. I'm just proud of the fact that you're an RCMP officer here in Swift Current. You represent the RCMP and our city very well. I think that it'll be interesting to see in the next 5-10 years how many young people out of our high school actually go into the RCMP because of a positive influence they see from a positive police officer."
