The tragic story of a Swift Current family who was involved in a head-on collision over two years ago is finally wrapping up.

On the night of October 10, 2008, 22-year-old Mirza Saqib Muhammad Balil was on his way from Saskatoon to Calgary travelling on Highway 7 near Rosetown.

Balil attempted to pass in the left lane going dangerously over the speed limit, and it resulted in a head on collision, killing Ken and Karen Burgess of Swift Current, and severely injuring their 27-year-old daughter Kendra, who spent weeks in a coma.

The three-day trial for Balil wrapped up in Saskatoon on Monday where he was charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death, and three counts of dangerous driving causing injury.  He was sentenced to 16 months in jail and a 3 year driving prohibition.

Balil also had a long history of dangerous driving in Ontario.
