The "Dawg" days of summer continue.

The Okotoks Dawgs wrapped up their second-straight Western Canadian Baseball League championship with a 13-5 win over the Medicine Hat Mavericks in the third and deciding game of the league championship series on Thursday night at Seaman Stadium.

The Dawgs jumped out to a 5-0 lead after five innings, but the Mavericks tied the game back up in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five runs on just two hits as Zack Stark and Brody Gardner scored on errors, Brady Bean came home on a bases-loaded walk, Nathan Tarver was forced home as Dominic Van Doorne was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Andrew Savage scored on a fielder's choice. The stalemate would not last long as Logan Grant hit a two-run triple to give the Dawgs the lead again in the bottom of the sixth. Okotoks added four more runs in the inning with an RBI single by Trent Lenihan and a bases-clearing three-run single by Caleb Lumbard to give the Dawgs an 11-5 lead, then Okotoks scored two more runs in the eighth inning to wrap up the scoring.

Dawgs starter Brock Townsend struck out five batters over 5.1 innings and Gavin Wuschke added three strikeouts as he picked up the victory in relief. Tim Carlson took the loss for Medicine Hat.

Brendan Luther, who hit .344 with three home runs and 10 RBI, was named the playoff MVP as the Dawgs captured their second straight Harry Hallis Memorial Trophy and seventh title overall, the most of any WCBL team since 2001.
