Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan held its Cultivating Trust Conference this week in Saskatoon.

A key highlight was the presentation of the Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan Champion Award which recognizes an individual in the ag sector that has worked to build public trust in farming and food.

The 2023 honor going to Delisle area farmer Shawn Colborn.

"I farm with two cousins. We've been around since 1910, it's a century farm we all operate under Colburn Farms Limited. We have a cattle ranch, a table egg operation,  grain, oilseed and pulse farm, and an irrigation farm."

They open their farm to individuals to get a first-hand look at how food is grown.

He has participated in several video projects with Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan, Saskatchewan Egg Producers, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture and the World Farmers Organization.

Colburn has served as Chair for Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan and a director on the Board of the Saskatchewan Egg Producers.

He also helped initiate Delisle Crops for Community, which raised over $300,000 by growing crops on town-owned land and donating the proceeds back to the community to help improve recreation facilities.

The Executive Director of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Clinton Monchuk says they are proud to recognize Shawn Colborn as our Champion for 2023.

"Shawn and his family have given tirelessly of their time and hospitality over the years to help consumers have a better understanding of farming. It’s wonderful to recognize this commitment to building trust in our industry."
