Work to demolish a century old building in downtown Swift Current is underway.

Last week Calgary's DB Contracting Solutions fenced off 26 Central Avenue North ahead of tearing down the structure built in 1915.

The building, owned by Avenue Living, recently underwent a structural evaluation and some issues were found.

"This structure was unstable and unsafe for occupancy," Avenue Living spokesperson said via email.

Avenue Living received approval to remove the 109-year building from the City in December of 2023.

The timeline for the apartment building to be demolished from the 0 block of Central Avenue is the end of the month.

There are no finalized plans for the soon to be vacant lot at this time.

Fifteen residential suites were situated in the building, consisting of bachelor and 1-bedroom units.
