A new Saskatchewan based assessment process designed to help recruit foreign doctors was announced today.

The assessment will make sure doctors are screened sufficiently to ensure patients receive safe high quality care, while meeting the needs of communities and health regions by efficiently recruiting international Medical Graduates.

Benefits of the new assessment process include allowing more IMGs to be assessed, going directly to the community where they were recruited to practice individually and allow full mobility between provinces.

The new assessment becomes effective at the beginning of 2011.
