Decision 2012

It's time to make your voice heard.

Civic Elections will be held all across Saskatchewan today, and the polls will be open from 9:00am to 8:00pm. To be eligible to vote, you need to be at least 18 years of age and a Canadian citizen, have resided or have owned assessible property in a municipality for three months prior to election day, and have lived in Saskatchewan for six months prior to election day.

In Swift Current, voters living north of Highway 1 will vote at the Swift Current Museum, southside residents vote at Fairview School, those west of 6th Ave NE are asked to go to the Colonel Clifton Centre (the former Swift Current Recreation Centre), and voters living east of 6th Ave NE vote at the Credit Union iplex. In Shaunavon, all voters are asked to go to the Legion Hall.

You need to present identification in order to vote, either a Saskatchewan Driver's License or two pieces of ID with at least one showing name and physicial address. An example of a piece of ID showing your name is a debit card or Social Insurance card, and a SaskPower, SaskEnergy or City Light and Power bill could be used to show name and address.

All voters in Swift Current are being encouraged to cast a ballot, as voter turnout is down early on after last week's advance and mobile polls. The city reports that 131 voters came out to the advance poll on Saturday at the Colonel Clifton Centre, and the total voters to date is 385, down from 601 voters at the advance polls in 2009. Voter turnout in the last election was 53.2%, or 5,320 voters.
